NBVO FAQs

What's the process of working with NBVO from start to finish?

  1. Fill out our no-obligation project form to get started with NBVO.

  2. We'll respond promptly with a quote based on the details you provided.

  3. We generate a quote for each voice actor of NBVO you're interested in working with (Nicole, Jack, and/or Lila).

  4. Once you agree to the quote, you can choose to either direct us in a remote live session (usually 1 hour over Zoom or similar), or waive the opportunity to direct and allow us to work on our own according to a deadline. If you choose to direct, we'll send you an easy scheduling link.

  5. During the live session, we'll give you enough takes to feel satisfied. If you've waived the live session, we'll record on our own and give you multiple takes according to our own judgment. Either way, we'll clean up the recordings to make them sound great, and send them to you via WeTransfer or your preferred method, usually within a few hours. The project is considered "fulfilled," and we'll also send your invoice.

  6. If you need small modifications or additions to the recording, you can request a paid round of revision. These are generally billed at a standard $100 each (but might be more, depending on the changes needed).

What if I need pickups/revisions?

After your initial recording is delivered, any further work by NBVO will be billed on a pay-per-engagement basis. If you need a revision, the fee is $100 per round. This includes any modification you're asking us to make to the recording, such as tweaks to tone or script changes. Even one-word revisions are still considered revisions.

If any round of revision includes more than 50% of the script or module/chapter, we will need to negotiate a special fee. Revision to a script that has already run is considered an "update" and usually costs almost the same as a new spot, since new usage is planned.

How do you determine my quote?

We don't have a flat fee per word or minute. Instead, we consult the industry-standard GVAA Rate Guide which takes into account the various ways a voice actor's performance might be used. We make it easy for you to get us the needed info by filling out our project form completely. Our quote includes your opportunity to direct remotely, our time to record, and the clean file delivery you will receive after we record.

BONUS! We can usually provide a batch discount for multiple spots recorded in one sitting. Your quote will be higher if you'll be placing our performance(s) in a paid context on social media, streaming, or traditional broadcast.

Will my recording sound wonderful/amazing/phenomenal?

Yes, it will. We use professional equipment, including a MacBook Pro, UAD Apollo Twin Interface, Neumann TLM-103 and Sennheiser MKH 416 microphones, and we record in a WhisperRoom sound booth. We'll edit out any flubs or mistakes to ensure a seamless final product. Note that you are responsible for editing desired takes into your recording. We'll send only the running recording file, with editing for pops, flubs, ugly breaths, and weird noises.

Can I use the voiceover recording forever and wherever I like?

Well, it depends.

You can use it indefinitely on your website or for non-public use, or in organic (unpaid, unboosted) social media posts. However, if you plan to use the recording for paid placement, such as on TV/radio, YouTube pre-roll, or at trade shows, the usage rate will increase, and you'll need to purchase additional usage time. Additionally, if you require a full buyout, it could restrict NBVO from entering certain agreements in the future, so it may be more cost-effective to purchase time as you go. The minimum block of usage time is typically three months, and you can always purchase more time if needed after the license expires. This doesn't apply if you only plan to use the recording on your website or in unboosted social media posts.

What are my options for recording?

NBVO can record in multiple ways, including:

  1. Directed Session - (Best Option!) A live, directed Zoom (or similar platform)  session.

  2. A solo session - NBVO records on their own and files delivered afterward by an agreed upon deadline.

  3. A Source Connect session - for high-volume studios.

  4. In Person Session - If you prefer an in-person session, travel fees may apply, but remote sessions are typically more convenient and effective. After confirming project details and a quote, Nicole will send you a booking link to schedule your session.

What if I'm concerned about timing issues with my video?

Consider booking a live session with NBVO, which doesn't incur any extra charges. Working "to video" can be a challenging process for a voice actor, so it's best to direct Nicole as she reads and indicate where you'd like pauses. Rest assured that Nicole will voice in a way that allows your video editor to easily adjust phrases to achieve the desired timing.

What if I've never directed before?

The standard session is one hour, although many sessions take less time. If you need guidance, Nicole can provide it, and scheduling is easy with the booking link she sends you after confirming project details and a quote.

Do you teach voiceover?

Thanks for asking! Yes, I do. Check it out.
